$20,000 Savings From Our Value-Engineering

Writer: Barry ShawBarry Shaw

We completed architectural schematic designs for a new ground up two story custom home and submitted to the structural engineer for framing design.

We received back their design for analysis, which was loaded with steel columns and beams. This would add an additional subcontractor to the project, add significant costs and add time to the schedule. Utilizing our design-build experience, we laid out a plan and suggested use of heavy timber and PSL members as needed, in lieu of any steel.

The engineer redesigned the framing for our open floor plan design, with calculations supporting the use of all wood framing.

Resulting construction benefits to our Client, before construction even began, include: saving over $20,000 in steel fabrication, erection, welders and special deputy steel inspectors, along with two weeks savings in construction time and ease of assembly by our framing subcontractor who can now use standard wood framing installations.

We hold Certificates in CO, CA, HI, ID, TX, with an emphasis on architect & construction management services in Colorado.
