ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit)

ADU Architectural Plans

We designed and built this detached Carriage House structure of a two car garage and ADU, adjunct to the new custom home project.

This 350 sq. ft. Studio ADU packs in a lot of architectural design features that can accommodate easily an array of varied occupants (i.e. live-in family member, private work space, art studio, etc.). But depending on zoning codes, if this 400 sq. ft. garage is not required, theoretically this detached structure could easily become a spacious ADU Cottage, one bedroom unit of 750 sq. ft. In this case, a live-in Nanny or Nurse could comfortably habitat this space.

This ADU Carriage House contains a Bed area, Sitting space, Dinette, Bookshelf niche, Kitchen, Bath with skylight and walk-in Closet. It has a covered patio and view to a long landscaped area that is the side yard of the primary home.

The interior has a high volume sloped ceiling, bamboo wood flooring, another skylight and lighting on dimmers. The Bath and Kitchen reflect ADA guidelines that we hold a Certificate in, as well as a call intercom for audio communication and switch for light notification, to persons in the main home in case of emergency.

Additional custom amenities include: fire safety sprinkler system with recessed heads, optional wall-bed niche if space is used for an art studio, pull-down shelf for another writing/laptop surface, stereo speakers in walls wired to t.v. audio hub, doggy door accommodation and pantry or stack washer/dryer option.

Let us know if you would like to discuss the possibilities for an ADU on your property in Colorado.

Best Always! Barry R. Shaw AIA, GC
