Hand-drawn architectural sketches show stair details with MDF, plywood tread, and wood nosing. Various sections and views labeled with notes.

This stair detail drawing was for a new two-story custom home project about 1,000 miles from our Louisville, Colorado office.

During the framing stage of the project, our client requested an alternative finish detailing, from the original approved plans.

Of course, we accommodated their requests and made a jobsite appointment meeting with them. In this manner they could physically see the current rough-in stair construction status relative to a proposed design for finish work completion.

I arranged for my lead finish carpenter to be in this meeting, so the four of us could brainstorm not only a new trim design, but also material substitutions associated with the home’s modern architectural design style.

We typically set-up an independent jobsite office for a new project on the street and out of the way of site construction, so I grabbed a pencil and piece of printer paper and started sketching during our meeting.

This is the final drawing that was used for the stair edge detailing, that was a prominent feature to the entry of the home’s open plan design. As well, this expanded and gracious alternative ‘U’ shape stair wound up to the second floor level bathed with natural light from a large skylight and a 26’ high ceiling from first floor level to the top pitch of the ceiling.

We provide this same on-site service for our client’s, even when we are not the general contractors and instead package the architecture, engineering and client service resources for the project.

Let us know what type of new home project you are contemplating, by simply submitting a form at the bottom of our Home page and we’ll get back with you within (24) hours.

Best Always!
